João Paulo Figueirôa has been teaching students of all levels for over 13 years. He has held faculty positions in Universities and guitar festivals in Brazil and in the United States, been in demand as a master class teacher. His students have been awarded in several guitar competitions, accepted at a variety of universities, colleges, and other performing arts programs.
Between 1998 and 2002, João Paulo Figueirôa served as faculty at Escola de Música da Universidade Federal da Bahia, in Brazil, where he taught applied guitar lessons, group guitar classes and music theory. During this period he was also an active lecturer and assisted the music education department developing manuals to teach guitar in group. From 2003 to 2008 he served as a graduate assistant at Florida State University where he studied under the guidance of the legendary pedagogue Bruce Holzman. For his teaching dedication, João Paulo Figueirôa was nominated for an outstanding teaching assistant award in 2006. From 2008 until 2009, João Paulo Figueirôa joined Thomas University as a faculty member, serving there for one year until he relocated to Washington DC area.
João Paulo Figueirôa is currently a member of the MTNA (Music Teacher National Association) and NVMTA ( Northern Virginia Music Teacher Association). He holds a private guitar studio Arlington, VA, where he resides. You may contact Dr. Figueirôa regarding rates and availability.
